Comms - Invisio V60

Comms - Invisio V60

Preface: I'm not a communications expert, just an end-user who takes a liking to this kind of stuff. During my initial research, I found limited info on Invisio V-series. Fast forward to now, I want to share some info for potential interested users of this equipment. Note, this overview only scratches the surface of Invisio's features and capabilities.

Invisio V60: It's a tri-comm control unit serving as the ultimate communications hub, featuring 3 COM ports and 4 PTT buttons, compatible with various communication devices for land, sea, and air vehicles.

Cables: Obtaining Invisio cables outside of issued sets can be challenging. eBay often has used V-Series cables for sale, but they're pricey.

Invisio offers a legacy headset adaptor cable (HC01 – TP Receptacle 4-pin P/N: INV13156) for standard NATO plugs, though it's bulky and expensive. The upside is its versatility if you're without an Invisio-specific headset.

Another pricey option, one could say “unicorn”, is the headset adaptor cable for Ops-Core AMP's, a 10-pin Fischer to HC01 cable (P/N: INV16923). The nice part of connectorized AMP’s is quick switching your headset between compatible cables to different PTT’s.

Invisio provides comm cables for various mil/LE radios. I use the AP-136 for AN/PRC 152 (or 6-pin) and a 13-pin cable for the Motorola XTS5000.

Headsets: Certain headsets with the Invisio HC01 connector can directly connect to the PTT unit, including 3M Peltor COMTAC (V), and XPI, Ops-Core AMP's with the Invisio HC01 headset cable to 10-pin Fischer, and the modified Peltor COMTAC by Atlantic Signal called "Below H20 Maritime headset." And obviously, Invisio made headsets.

Power: The V60 unit draws power from the radio to function unlike analog PTT's, but some older gen PRC radios may not provide power. The PS30 power supply offers standalone power using AA batteries, but it's an additional expense and added wires. From my experience, TRI PRC-152 and Motorola XTS5000 power the V60 unit effectively.

Final Thoughts: Before investing in a V60 PTT unit due to a tempting deal, be aware that cable expenses alone could potentially double or even triple the overall cost of the V60 PTT itself. I believe adding communications to your kit is crucial and while you can invest in advanced setups, ensure your team can hear you. Most importantly, incorporating it into your training.
